Bas Vellekoop is a global technologist, learning innovator and performance consultant. He was born in Gouda, The Netherlands into a family of teachers, and has studied and worked in Japan, Norway, England, Poland and Argentina. Professional travel has taken him to visit and work in the US, Brazil, Mexico, India and Singapore. He speaks English, Spanish and Dutch every day.
After studying Applied Physics at the University of Twente, where his MSc thesis work lead to two publications, he started out in science and R&D. His career moved from technology operations via training technologists to Global Head of Learning. Along the way he worked at a customer support center, dealing with frustrated clients: a key learning experience.
Working at Thomson Reuters for 10 years has exposed him to technology that powers financial markets, scientists, lawyers and accountants everywhere. This environment with more than 50,000 professionals in 100+ countries has provided experience and a proven ability to lead and work with global teams across borders, time zones and cultures.
He's been an integral part of many of the change projects that happened over the years, adoption of (ITIL) process, Cultural Awareness, offshoring of jobs, moving from Waterfall to Agile, the growing importance of Mobile, Cloud, and Big Data. Change being the only constant, Bas continuously innovated technology learning incorporating elements as diverse as process, cultural awareness, unconferences and hackathons.
Being a physicist, Bas enjoys dissecting difficult problems into solvable parts, and his creativity and positive attitude help inspire others.
